WINTER 2025/2026: OBESE
Hello and welcome to the first-ever public Eat These update. I have many of these archived (most of them are just ranting), but also a lot of trying to contain my thoughts and ideas in one consecutive place. I am 100% about the archive, not in a hoarder way, but in a dangerously curious way. Nitpicking something that is so documented, and you’ve seen/heard so many times only makes it so much easier to try to pick it apart. So the goal of this is to be more aware and document what is going on around me. Seasonal updates of what’s being worked on, gigs happening, what’s exciting, maybe what’s written on my whiteboard, a picture of the current setup, and a little snippet of something I’m excited about. So that is a list that I am going to work through, and you are about to get the complete insight into False Denver Hardcore 21-year-old label running drumming Eddie Eat These Eaton. That last sentence is crazyyyyyyy
First up is, “What is being worked on?” It is this. eattheserecords.com. I spent about a week straight roughly two months ago initially setting everything on the website up, and in turn immediately got burnt out from it. Since then, this is the first time I have touched it in hopes to drop a simplified version of the website in the coming week. The plan is to have a very in depth page for each artist, I have gathered information from a few, but that is something that will have to happen passively. I hope the shop will be out and work by then, but am unsure of launching without the proper tools already at hand. Mainly just a label printer but money is tiiiiiiight right now. What comes to mind when being worked on in the past few weeks is a lot of drumming, finishing up the Albeit debut, and trying to finish the dreaded Undissassembled album. “Why dreaded?”, you may think. It has been in my computer and in the mixing stage for almost an entire year at this point. I thought it had been finished on the mixes I had on our summer tour, but deep down I knew it was just the beginning. Learning from my mistakes, we started recording the Albeit album very soon when we got back and I did it in a much more simple, to the point kinda way and I think it works a lot better, and that has also been in the works for like 9 months. It is a process recording an album, especially when you want a good, satisfying final product. And that comes with doing anything, especially learning and adapting to any new spaces. You have to be flexible, and ready for improvement.
Okay some gigs happening…. there is a lot coming to Denver, and that has seemed to be the case and it is rocking. I went to a handful of shows pre-COVID, but never any DIY shows. As one in Denver does, I started going to Convulse shows. Probably around 2023, often playing the shows with Deadpan then. Since then I feel raised under the wing of Convulse, watching the growth of not only shows but the following has been nothing but inspiring to me to do more. DIY has everything that I encompass as an individual, and they have always been very important to me. Upcoming DIY shows are: February 15th at Ante Up is all local Ukko’s Hammer, Direct Threat, and Chain Law. February 20th at D3 Arts is Risk, Sacred Path, Time Heist, Primal, and Skarlet. March 6th at 7th Circle is the American Culture kickoff, with Candy Apple, Spin Move, and Strawberry Crush. March 13th at The Marquis is Spiritual Cramp with Destiny Bond, No Guard, and Direct Threat. March 15th at D3 Arts is Big Boy, Apex Predator, Paradise, Sewerslide, and Primal Fury. (heard Ingrown too?) March 17th at 7th Circle is Primitive Rage, Gargoyle, Ukko’s Hammer, Pillaged and Chain Law. By then, it will be spring. and there will be more gigs. But many, many more to see than those mentioned above. Denver Hardcore Winter 2026.
What’s exciting? Honestly, not a whole lot in this spot and the state of the country. What do I find exciting right now? Listening to classic albums and getting to experience them for the first time. Bands like Sepultura, Slayer, Suffocation, The Dickies, Metallica, Aphex Twin, NoMeansNo, DJ Screw, Stanley Clarke, so much more. What’s been on repeat has been a lot of Josh Freese’s solo albums, I finally understand Meshuggah, Ronald Bruner is the greatest to do it, Joyce Manor is so back, and NOFX 7” of the Month 2005 edition on my local files. I’ve been on my SoulSeek grind, downloading different versions, and bootlegs of my favorite bands because I want to treat my phone more like an IPod and less like a tiny robot in my pocket. Music is where it is, and what fills a lot of my day, so that is what is exciting right now. Playing music, Chain Law is the most exciting right now. Issac and I have decided to completely stop on Polish for now, and focus Chain Law which is kinda like Knife Kink, but more straight to the point and full of riffs. Featuring once Young but now Old Nick, RVDom, Jack, Issac, and myself. Lots to be excited about, but more to be locked in about.
What’s the setup and on my whiteboard? The room right now, is where it has been for the past two years. Based in my Grandparents (bless them), basements’ storage room lies Eat These Records, where I record videos, albums and am typing this now. The room is somewhat treated, but by no means soundproof. There’s a lot of stuff in a tiny space, as you will see in the attached photos. I’ll do one of the studio, and one of my whiteboard. Right now, my whiteboard is a mess. It has reminders and “inspiration” but it becomes one with the wall, as all of my walls are fully covered with flyers, album inserts, framed posters and much more shit. None of the goals I set are actually acheived, but more wishful thinking. It will happen in due time. Honestly everything could be upgraded but by no means is it very bad, but money is needed first. I don’t want to sell out to the man but I fear it has to happen.
I’m going to mention that I am writing a song every month in hope for an album by the end of the year. Going deeper into capturing, archiving, and growing my songwriting and performance abilities. I would like it to see the light of day at the end of the year, but knowing me it will probably be later than that. January’s song was "Fat Again; Forever Obese", a silly grunge inspired song. I am thinking a cover for this month, but I’ll try to come up with something else before doing so. Below is a short snippet of the song for your enjoyment.
That concludes this very formal check-in. If you thought this was all over the place, we are just getting started. We’ll talk in the spring, maybe April or May.
